Philosophy is Fundamental

This is the kind of thing that happens when one is philosophically compromised and has a compromised philosophy of science: “Secrets of Math From the Bee Whisperer” by Susan D’Agostino (Quanta Magazine, 22 Jan 2020.)

Bees cannot do math!

These scientists intersperse good methods with making crap up. They need to learn the logic of concept-formation and the logic of theory-formation.They need to define their terms, identify the nature of things, and identify cause-effect relationships. And stick to it.

What bees and some other animals can do, and how that relates to our abilities, is to be identified for what it is, not what some may want it to be. Nothing more, and nothing less.
