Thought for the Day

When we do not understand a subject or thing, we should refrain from discussing it (except to learn about it!) and from making proclamations or judgements about it (to the extent we do not know it). To think and talk in ignorance is sometimes foolhardy, but sometimes dangerous.

As Alexander Pope wrote in his An Essay on Criticism (1711):
A little learning is a dang’rous thing;
Drink deep, or taste not the Pierian spring:
There shallow draughts intoxicate the brain,
And drinking largely sobers us again.
