Amen. This is how it should be done.
Not that “direct instruction“ is wrong or anything like that, it’s just a small part of the picture.
And this is not an argument for “unschooling“ or anything like that. This video gives us an idea of what should be done in education, and what a good teacher could help a student do.
Most young people learning a subject have very little life experience, very little understanding of other subjects, and minimal to no experience with deep principles — never mind logic and epistemology. A good teacher will help a student develop a deep understanding of a concept, connect it to other things in that field of study, and connect it to things beyond what the student would have imagined on their own.
That is the kind of teacher schools should hire and appreciate. (But as the video implies, that is not often enough the case.)
