German Cartoons and Ads From the ’30s and ’40s

On The Radio Dismuke Blog, Dismuke writes about a German cartoonist whose work he likes: Hans Fischerkoesen. Dismuke has some of Fischerkoesen’s works posted. Read the blog post, and watch Philips Advert, Fischerkoesen (1937) (a commercial for light bulbs!!) and Weather-Beaten Melody, Fischerkoesen (1942) (a cartoon about a bee discovering an old phonograph!!). There’s quite a 3-D effect in the latter video. Amazing!! I like the feel, playfulness, and intelligence of the cartoons. They are worth watching as a study in history, culture and technology, as well as for the plain joy of it.
