Education in the 40s

There’s a video (the title of the video says 40s in it) up on YouTube (which videos always come and go…so watch soon) that shows Progressive education in practice and discusses it in theory. The video is about 7 minutes long. We even get to see and hear John Dewey, the founder of Progressive education — and one of the arch-destroyers of the modern American intellect. Dewey, following Immanuel Kant, believed that truth was a social construct (it depended, not on objective reality, but on consensus); that there were no universal, timeless truths; and that reason was not a means of grasping reality (of “perception”), but was a means of creating reality…or blinding us to reality, at best. Evil. Damned evil. In this day of anti-heroes, Dewey is an anti-Founding Father. (Though actually the “anti-hero” is dead, I believe. Experts in art or literature can correct me if I’m wrong. We are in a “post-modern,” “post-anti hero,” Forrest Gump culture.) HT for video: D-Ed Reckoning.
