Is anyone interested in low cost math courses? Private tutoring?
Let your child work with someone who knows the arithmetic needed for algebra and who knows why and how that algebra is needed for algebra two, precalculus, calculus, physics, chemistry and finance.
Let your child work with someone who knows geometry, where geometry comes from, and how it is used in precalculus, calculus, physics, and science.
Let your child work with an expert — degreed in math and philosophy and studied in science — who can teach the math, can teach how it is used in the real world, and can pull out of it lessons for thinking in general.
The ancient Greek philosopher Plato is purported (link to a PDF on the University of Colorado Denver’s Website) to have had a sign above his school, the Academy, saying (among other translations) “Let no one who is not a geometer enter here.” Regardless, Plato knew mathematics helped a person along the path to higher learning and helped a person master reasoning. Let your child work with someone who can make the most of the subject.
You can work with your child and learn at the same time that your child is learning. You don’t have to struggle to find good texts, waste a year on a text you find you don’t like, waste a year on a program you don’t like, search high and low to find supplemental material, spend years studying the whole of math, its history and its applications. You can have all this done for you.
Depending on the size of the class, you can have help for $10 per class or less! All you need is an Internet connection and a cheap camera to meet in a “virtual classroom” such as Elluminate, authorLIVE, or dimdim.
