Read Creativity and Little Content on the D-Ed Reckoning Blog. I can’t tell for sure for lack of information, but from what I read on the blog, in a newspaper article about the competition (the Pittsburgh papers Post-Gazette and Tribune-Review) and on the Website of the sponsors of the competition (2008-2009 Pittsburgh Regional Future City Competition), the competition shows how not to do hands-on educational activitities. The competition would be fine if it’s messing around, but it does not appear to teach what it claims to teach: engineering!! Or math. Or physics. Or economics (the city L.U.R.E. is not self-sustainable!! there is insufficient division of labor!!).
